INTERESTING EYEWEAR FACT: James Ayscough, an eighteenth century Optician, began experimenting with tinted lenses in spectacles in around 1750. These were not “sunglasses”, perse – Ayscough believed blue- or green-tinted glass could correct for specific vision impairments. Protection from the sun’s rays was not a concern of his … yikes! Either way, just look at these absolutely MAGICAL frames – looks like something from a science fiction or fantasy film, but according to historians, they were actually “all the rage” in the mid-eighteenth century!
